Who is ASA?The Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) is a non-profit association with over 1000 individual members, practitioners and academics engaged and/or interested in domestic and international arbitration. Membership is open to all nationalities and irrespective of the level of experience; actually more than 350 members reside outside of Switzerland. Many of the most distinguished names in international arbitration are ASA Members. To apply for a membership, please visit the application form website. ASA contributes to the development of arbitration law and practice i.a. through regular conferences and workshops, Local Group meetings and publication of the renown quarterly ASA Bulletin and the ASA Special Series. ASA also participates as a NGO in the conferences of the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration. The ASA Group Below40 organizes events especially for young arbitrators. ASA does not itself serve as an institution hosting or administering arbitral proceedings. Switzerland has a longstanding tradition as one of the preferred countries for hosting international arbitration. A number of reasons may account for this success: Political neutrality, a well developed legal system, geographically convenient location, but more important, the Swiss openness of mind for different values, cultures and perceptions of foreign parties coming to arbitrate in Switzerland.
